When thinking of art, we frequently associate the word with canvases, paintbrushes, sculptures, pastels, etc. All too often the artistry of the cosmetics world is overlooked, however, 21-year-old Autumn Frazier out of Houston, Texas is changing that narrative. Utilizing nails as her canvas, she craftily creates styles to her clients content. Residing in Kansas City, Kansas since 2013, it wasn’t until 2018 that she began doing nails professionally after giving birth to her son. Like many creatives, working a 9 to 5 job was unappealing to Autumn and she wanted the freedom of controlling her schedule whilst still being able to provide for her baby. She’s always had a niche for arts and crafts so taking up nails was something she enjoyed immediately. Some of the difficulties that come with her craft is getting people to appreciate her time and dealing with several client personalities. Typically, when clients sit in Autumn’s chair they ask her to freestyle; something that allows her to let her creativity flourish with the use of different colors, designs, crystals, and glitter. Frazier’s biggest motivators have been her sister, her son, and of course her clients. She’s been able to form long and prosperous bonds with clients who’ve been going to her since the day she started. She recognizes them as sort of her nail family, appreciating the fact they’ve critiqued her on this journey to improve as a Nail technician set by set. Frazier states her biggest accomplishment was being able to place herself in a nail salon that felt like a second home for her. She feels as if she was received with open arms and continues to be to this day. Every day she grows a little more, gaining more knowledge about her industry and the changes that occur within it. Growth is one of the things she loves most about being a nail tech, and she hopes to spread that in the future by owning a nail school and supply. Autumn Frazier intends to allow other aspiring nail techs to learn how to properly do nails with the correct tools and chemicals to work with. “You can find me somewhere in between inspiring others, working on myself, dodging negativity, and slaying nails.” An artist no doubt, she nails it every time!
